Best NYC Locations, Cheap, Budget, Closest
The Best US Tennis Open hotels include our cheap, budget and lesser known discount hotels along with Hotels near Grand Central, Penn Station and the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (NTC) in Queens.
Part of the fun of traveling to the US Open is to see NYC, right? In that case, you’ll want to stay in hotels closest to the NYC public transportation that takes you there quickly. There are two main ways to get to the NTC: 7 subway and LIRR (Long Island Railroad). If you have a car to park, then a Queens hotel with a shuttle to the NTC might be best for you.
If you prefer to stay in Manhattan, ideally, you’ll want to be near Penn Station or Grand Central for the quickest access to the NTC. The 7 subway train stops at both Times Square and Grand Central Station and the LIRR leaves from Penn Station. During the US Open, both the subway and LIRR send extra trains to and from the Mets-Willets Point Station at the busiest times. If I had to choose, my recommendation on the better area of NYC in which to stay (nicer, more shops, restaurants, attractions) is near Grand Central, but both Times Square and Penn Station have tons to offer.
Queens Hotels Near the US Open
There are many hotels nearby in Queens, some of which offer a shuttle bus service to the NTC during the US Open. These options are also great for anyone with a car, since parking fees are significantly lower than in Manhattan. Please check with the hotel to confirm shuttles and parking are offered. Since the Long Island Rail Road stops at the NTC, staying on Long Island is also a possibility. Hotels Near Flushing, Queens:
Hotel Indigo Flushing – “Tennis enthusiasts traveling to the area for the US Open Tennis Championships, for which IHG Hotels & Resorts is the Official Hotel Sponsor, will appreciate Hotel Indigo Flushing’s proximity to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. A short distance to the subway and the Long Island Rail Road, the hotel also offers quick and convenient access to Manhattan.”
Marco LaGuardia Hotel by Lexington – “If you’re headed to the US Open, this is the place to stay. The convenient hotel shuttle takes you to and from the nearby tennis center, the restaurant next door is a hidden gem whose breakfast buffet can’t be beat, and the hotel staff is always helpful.”
Asiatic Hotel – Flushing – “Stayed here while attending a Cubs/Mets game at Citi Field…was pleased with how clean it was…plus it was a short walk from Citi Field.”
Fairfield Inn New York LaGuardia – “Visit the U.S. Open and enjoy a stress-free commute with our convenient shuttle service ” This hotel also offers FREE Parking! So if you’re driving to the US Open, this is your pick! Free parking, free shuttle to US Open, free shuttle to 7 train if you want to go into Manhattan and free Wi-Fi!
The Parc Hotel – Walk about 25 minutes to get to the NTC and after a day of watching tennis, walk back to our rooftop bar and lounge for sumptuous cocktails, stunning NYC views and stellar service.
LaGuardia Plaza Hotel – New York – “Providing a shuttle to and from the Open was wonderful, and one night match ran very late and exceeded the midnight pickup time. However, everyone was picked up by a late shuttle and taken to their hotels.”
Hyatt Place Flushing/LaGuardia Airport – “I stayed here with my parents for US open. The hotel was conveniently located near the stadium. There was a complimentary shuttle to the stadium which was nice (10 mins).”
Home2 Suites by Hilton New York LIC – “We went to US Open for 4 days and plan to return next year and use the same hotel. ”
Hampton Inn New York – LaGuardia Airport – “Thank you for making our first US Open a wonderful experience!!! US Open here we come (back…)! ”
Corona Hotel New York – LaGuardia Airport – pretty sure no one wants to stay at a hotel that has the word Corona in the name, but Corona is an area of Queens and this is a decent option and a short walk to the NTC.
Ramada by Wyndham Flushing – “We were attending the US Open and this hotel was a perfect location.” Note: This hotel has very mixed reviews.

US Open Hotels Where the Players Stay
Want to get a better shot at seeing players when they are off the courts in NYC? In 2017, Roger Federer headed to the Central Park Tennis Center during the US Open to practice and fans got to watch free. Another great way to see players off the courts is to book yourself into one of the hotels they often use when visiting for the US Open. According to the NY Times, NYC hosts “543 of the world’s best tennis players from 64 countries,” mostly in Midtown Manhattan, where you can easily go from Grand Central Station to the US Open by subway. Here’s a great video highlighting the hotels and we list them all below, along with names of players who have stayed here in the past.
- Lotte New York Palace – Serena and Venus Williams, Nadal, Kyrgios, Bouchard (455 Madison Ave)
- Grand Hyatt New York – one of the partner hotels of the US Open and hosts a large portion of the main draw (109 E 42nd St)
- Thompson Central Park – this is one of the hotels where the black town cars, who are always in the know about what goes on NYC, gather in the morning during the tournament to take players to Flushing (119 W 56th St)
- The Quin Central Park by Hilton Club – Herbert, Mahut. In prior years, they offered guests a “Quintessential U.S. Open tennis experience” with the “exclusive opportunity to meet with several of the players who will be staying at the hotel throughout the tournament, subject to availability,” for the bargain rate of $1,995 (101 W 57th St)
- The Pierre – Muguruza & Wawrinka (2 E 61st St)
- The Tuscany – Querrey (120 East 39th St) – being converted in late 2022 to short term rentals
- The Kitano Hotel – Nishikori and Osaka have stayed here, since it’s the only luxury Japanese hotel in NYC. (66 Park Ave)
- The Knickerbocker – Lopez, Bautista Agut (Times Square)
- InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel – (111 E 48th St) – Official US Open partner hotel, where players and their teams are encouraged to stay
- The Lexington Hotel, Autograph Collection – (511 Lexington Ave @ E 48th St) – Official US Open partner hotel, where players and their teams are encouraged to stay
- New York Marriott East Side – (525 Lexington Avenue @ 49th St)
- The Benjamin – (125 E 50th St)

Discount NYC Hotels
Discount NYC Hotels – These are my hand picked hotels that start at $25 per night. They are not always listed on generic hotel travel websites or they may be listed as ‘specialty lodging,’ and therefore hard to find.
While you may have to compromise to stay in one these hotels, like a shared bathroom, or no television, you cannot beat the prices for these locations.

How Long Does it Take to get to the US Open?
The LIRR takes about 15 minutes and the subway from Grand Central is about 30 minutes. As a general rule, leave yourself 45-60 minutes commuting time, and another 20 minutes to enter the grounds, especially if you bring a bag, as there are separate security lines for bag check.
