OnePlus 13 will support magnetic wireless charging, exec confirms

    [ad_1]

The OnePlus 13 is coming, and it will support magnetic wireless charging, but with a twist. The twist being that it’s apparently not going to have magnets inside, but will instead rely on magnetic cases to hook up to magnetic wireless chargers.

This information comes straight from a OnePlus exec on Weibo, but since the original text is in Chinese, we have to rely on machine translation and that can always go awry, so do keep that in mind.

    OnePlus 12
    OnePlus 12

So there’s still a chance that the phone itself will have the necessary magnets to make this work, we can’t be 100% sure right now. If it’s going the case route, then it will be a similar system to those already offered by a myriad case makers that have built products that can turn your regular wireless charging phone into one compatible with MagSafe chargers.

The exec in question has also confirmed that OnePlus will launch wood grain design cases for the OnePlus 13, although the wording strongly hints at these not being made out of real wood, instead simply emulating the look of wood.

The OnePlus 13 is launching later this month with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 at the helm paired with insane amounts of RAM.

Amazon Prime Day deals are available to shop before October Big Deal Days starts tomorrow

    [ad_1]

Amazon Prime Big Deal Days is back this year, returning on October 8 and 9. The “fall Prime Day” of sorts has served as the online retailer’s unofficial kickoff to the holiday shopping season for the past few years. We expect most of the deals to be Prime exclusives, meaning you must be an active Prime subscriber to get the discounts. There are always a couple of deals available for everyone, though, so it’s worth perusing Amazon’s site even if you don’t pay for Prime. It’s also worth doing so now because we’ve found a number of solid early Prime Day deals already available. These are the best of the bunch; we’ll be updating this post regularly in the lead-up to October Prime Day, so check back for the latest deals.

There’s also a Lego City 2024 advent calendar that’s 20 percent off and down to only $26.

You may not immediately think of them when you think about Amazon’s own tech, but the shopping giant also owns Ring and Blink. Gadgets from these companies make up most of Amazon’s home security offerings, and you can usually find steep discounts during Prime Day on security cameras, alarm systems and other bundles.

Dragon Ball Z Voice Famous For ‘Find Out Next Time’ Has Died

    [ad_1]

Gilbert Auchinleck, better known as Doc Harris, the man whose narration on the English version of Dragon Ball Z has reached iconic meme status over the decades, has died at age 76. News of his passing was first posted by Broadcast Dialogue, which reported Harris died on Saturday, October 5, following “minor surgery” in September.

Harris worked in Canadian radio as far back as the ‘60s, but today most people likely know him for his work in animated series, having played Grogar in My Little Pony, Golem in Monster Rancher, and perhaps most famously, serving as the narrator in Dragon Ball Z. Even if you’ve never watched the iconic anime, you’ve probably heard Harris’ work on the show because the phrase “find out on the next episode of Dragon Ball Z” or some variation has become a long-running joke on the internet.

    Funimation / Bryan Z

Harris narrated the show for over 223 episodes between 1996 and 2003, though that role eventually went to Kyle Hebert, who voices Gohan in the anime. Hebert’s take on the narrator is near-identical to Harris’ booming, guttural delivery, so even if he’s been gone from the franchise for 20 years, his impact can still be felt in more recent dubs of the series. Sadly, Jōji Yanami, the narrator for the Japanese version of the series up until his retirement in 2015, passed away in 2021.

Harris isn’t the only loss the Dragon Ball franchise has had to endure in 2024, as series creator Akira Toriyama passed away in March. His final posthumous works included the Sand Land RPG that launched in April, and the upcoming anime Dragon Ball Daima. With the Dragon Ball franchise still a cultural mainstay to this day, it’s easy to forget that it’s approaching its 40th year, until we get news like this. Time marches on.

  • Why Injection Mold Laser Cleaning is crucial

Why Injection Mold Laser Cleaning is crucial

    [ad_1]

Plastic injection molding is a precise and intricate manufacturing process that requires high-quality molds for consistent results. Over time, these molds accumulate contaminants, residues, and debris that can compromise the quality of the final product. This is where Injection Mold Laser Cleaning plays a pivotal role. Laser cleaning technology provides a non-abrasive and highly effective solution for removing residues from injection molds, ensuring maximum efficiency and extending the lifespan of the molds.

In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of laser cleaning for plastic injection molding machines, how it works, and why it is a superior choice over traditional cleaning methods.

What is Injection Mold Laser Cleaning?

Injection Mold Laser Cleaning is a process that uses a focused laser beam to vaporize and remove unwanted contaminants such as rust, rubber, paint, oils, and residues from the mold surface. The laser is precisely controlled, allowing for targeted cleaning without harming the mold’s surface or affecting the structural integrity of the equipment. This cleaning method is not only effective but also environmentally friendly, as it doesn’t use chemicals or abrasives.

Why is Laser Cleaning Essential for Plastic Injection Molding Machines?

    1. Prevents Product Defects

The buildup of residues and contaminants on molds can lead to product defects, including surface imperfections, variations in texture, and inconsistencies in shape. Injection Mold Laser Cleaning ensures that every crevice of the mold is thoroughly cleaned, preventing any impurities from transferring onto the final product.

    2. Prolongs Mold Lifespan

Frequent cleaning with abrasive methods can wear down the mold surfaces, leading to costly repairs or replacements. Laser cleaning is a non-contact process, meaning it doesn’t physically touch the mold surface, thus extending the life of expensive molds used in plastic injection molding machines.

    3. Improves Production Efficiency

When molds are not cleaned properly, contaminants can cause sticking or uneven heating, which disrupts the production cycle and results in downtime. With laser cleaning, molds are restored to their optimal condition, ensuring smoother operations, faster cycle times, and reduced machine downtime.

    4. Minimizes Environmental Impact

Traditional cleaning methods often involve the use of chemicals, which can be hazardous to both workers and the environment. In contrast, Injection Mold Laser Cleaning is a dry, chemical-free process, making it a safer and more eco-friendly option.

    5. Reduces Maintenance Costs

By opting for laser cleaning, companies can reduce the need for regular mold maintenance, as the process is highly effective at removing even the most stubborn residues. This translates to lower maintenance costs and fewer disruptions to production schedules.

Also Read: Laser Graffiti Cleaning: A Modern Solution for Graffiti Removal

How Does Injection Mold Laser Cleaning Work?

Laser cleaning involves directing a concentrated laser beam at the contaminated surface of the mold. The laser’s energy breaks down the contaminants, which are then vaporized or removed without leaving any residues. The process is precisely controlled and can be adjusted based on the type of mold and the level of contamination.

The key advantage is that the laser beam can reach intricate areas that are often missed by traditional cleaning methods, ensuring a more comprehensive clean. This makes Injection Mold Laser Cleaning ideal for complex mold designs used in modern plastic injection molding machines.

Choosing the Right Laser Cleaning Service Provider

When it comes to laser cleaning for plastic injection molding machines, choosing a reliable and experienced service provider is crucial. by TeachThought Staff

There are many ways to encourage a child, but for students of any age, honest, authentic, and persistent messages from adults that have credibility in their eyes are among the most powerful.

The National Center on Quality Teaching and Learning has put together the following list, 50 Ways To Encourage A Child. It was designed for younger students (head start/kindergarten), but with the exception of 4, 17, 21, and maybe 40, they’re actually useful for K-12 in general. It all depends on your tone, the situation, and who else is listening.

  • Is Coconut Milk Good For You?

Is Coconut Milk Good For You?

    [ad_1]

Unsweetened coconut milk is a superfood milk substitute I frequently use in my home. While almond milk and oat milk are good for certain recipes, coconut milk adds a rich creaminess. It also tends to have fewer ingredients in its commercial form. Due to its creamy texture, coconut milk makes an excellent substitute for cow’s milk products like half-and-half and whipped cream.

    What is Coconut Milk?

Coconut milk is made by blending the fresh coconut flesh (or “meat”) of a mature coconut with water. (The brown hairy ones at the grocery store). Then the mixture is put through a filter to extract the milk. The resulting liquid is thick and creamy with a natural coconut flavor.

There are a lot of coconut products out there these days. Besides coconut milk, you’ll see coconut cream, coconut oil, coconut water, coconut flour, coconut sugar, and even coconut aminos.

While they’re all derived from coconuts, they differ in their processing, taste, uses, nutrients, and health benefits.

    Health Benefits of Coconut Milk

So, what does coconut milk do for your body? Coconut milk is rich in healthy fats, minerals, and other nutrients. It’s low in carbohydrates, so it’s an excellent milk alternative if you’re on a low-carb or ketogenic diet.

The main minerals in coconut milk are magnesium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc. Coconut milk provides a moderate amount of magnesium and about 3-4 mg of iron.

Phosphorus is essential for bone health and energy production. Coconut milk provides about 60 mg per cup. It also provides potassium, an important electrolyte mineral for maintaining balanced blood pressure. One cup of coconut milk contains around 600 mg of potassium — almost as much as a banana.

Coconut milk isn’t a good source of calcium, vitamin A, or vitamin D. So, some commercial brands fortify their coconut milk with these nutrients. That’s why you’ll sometimes see them in the nutrition facts labels on the coconut milk that comes in cartons.

    May Reduce Inflammation

The fatty acids in coconut milk may help reduce inflammation. Lauric acid is a medium chain triglyceride (MCT) in coconut milk that’s also an antioxidant. Scientists have linked lauric acid to a reduction of inflammatory chemicals in the body.

Coconut milk also has trace amounts of antioxidant nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin E, and selenium. While they occur in small quantities, these antioxidants can have strong anti-inflammatory effects.

We know chronic inflammation is behind most health conditions. It plays a key role in heart disease, arthritis, and autoimmune disorders, for example. Eating an anti-inflammatory diet that includes coconut products may help.

    Immune Support

Coconut milk may support the immune system and help fight infections. The lauric acid in coconut milk has antimicrobial properties. Lauric acid is converted into monolaurin which fights harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Since lauric acid is a fatty acid, there’s even more of it in coconut oil.

    Brain Health

The MCTs in coconut milk can provide a quick energy source for the brain, which usually uses glucose for fuel. In the absence of carbohydrates, MCTs provide an alternative energy source. The brain does really well on ketones and some people notice better cognitive function and focus. World-renowned neurologist Dr. Dale Bredesen uses MCTs to support those with Alzheimer’s disease.

    Digestive Support

Coconut milk has dietary fiber, which can help improve digestion and prevent constipation. It may also promote gut health by encouraging the growth of beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract. The fats in coconut milk are easier to digest for some people, especially those with lactose intolerance, as it’s a dairy-free alternative.

What About Cholesterol and Heart Health?

Coconut milk’s fat content is mostly saturated fats. Mainstream thinking is that saturated fats increase LDL “bad” cholesterol levels. I don’t worry so much about saturated fats, and I don’t believe they lead to unhealthy high cholesterol as part of a whole foods diet.

Other issues like inflammation and high blood sugar levels are behind cardiovascular disease. Coconut milk also has a specific type of saturated fat called lauric acid.

Lauric acid is believed to raise both LDL and HDL or “good” cholesterol. The increase in HDL may help balance the potential rise in LDL. There’s really no good or bad cholesterol. It’s just cholesterol, which your liver will make anyway if you get too low.

    Is Coconut Milk Fattening?

Coconut milk is relatively high in calories, especially the full-fat variety. A 1-cup serving of canned coconut milk can contain around 400-450 calories. However, the type of fat in coconut milk is mostly medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs).

In scientific studies, MCTs are less likely to be stored as fat. They may actually promote weight loss by curbing appetite and boosting fat burning.

However, if you’re concerned about weight, just use smaller amounts. A few tablespoons in coffee or smoothies will still provide flavor and creaminess. That way, you can enjoy the creamy texture without significantly increasing calories.

You may have noticed light coconut milk on the shelves next to the full-fat version. However, it’s lower in calories because it’s diluted with water to make it low-fat. If you want to cut calories, add more water to regular coconut milk.

Another important thing is to look for unsweetened coconut milk. Many coconut milk brands have added sugar, which makes it more likely to promote weight gain. Combining sweeteners with fats is a quick way to pack on the pounds.

Easy Ways to Add Coconut Milk to Your Diet

There are many easy and delicious ways to incorporate coconut milk into your diet. Here are some ideas and some of my favorites:

    Beverages

    Soups

    Curries

    Desserts

Here are ten other ways I like to use coconut milk. With all those coconut milk recipes, you might wonder if it’s possible to overdo it.

Is It Safe to Drink Coconut Milk Every Day?

Overconsumption of coconut milk could also lead to unwanted weight gain. Taking in a lot of coconut milk, especially alongside other high-fat foods, could contribute to obesity over time.

According to the FDA, coconuts are considered “tree nuts.” So, those with tree nut allergies (cashew, walnut, or almond) may want to be careful with coconut milk.

While coconuts are technically fruits, some people with tree nut allergies also react to coconut. That could be due to cross-reactivity as the immune system becomes super sensitive. However, it could be due to the cross-contamination at the processing facilities. Either way, it’s a good idea to be careful.

A compromised gut also increases a person’s chances of developing a coconut allergy. But that’s the case with foods in general.

    Bottom Line on Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is one of my favorite non-dairy milks to use. I find that buying it in its full-fat form is the best for versatility. To top desserts, I drain off the water and whip it like heavy cream. If I need a more diluted version, I just add more water and blend it smooth. Coconut milk’s nutritional content makes it a no-brainer item to always have in the pantry.

The short answer is yes, but you need to understand its complexities.

Airbnb offers two main types of coverage: Host Damage Protection, which covers up to $3 million in guest-related damage, and Host Liability Insurance, providing up to $1 million in coverage for injuries or property damage affecting guests.

    Host Damage Protection

    What it covers:

    • Property damage from guests
    • Vehicle damage if caused by guests
    • Extra cleaning fees due to guests’ actions
    • Lost income if you must cancel future bookings due to damage

    What’s not covered:

    • Normal wear and tear
    • Loss of money or currency
    • Damage from natural disasters

The claims process can be complicated, so it’s crucial to understand what’s covered and not to save yourself time and prepare for anything that comes up. There are several things to note about filing claims, such as only having 14 days to file and needing proper documentation for the costs of repairs. This can be as simple as an invoice from your cleaner for extra work or your handyperson for having to fix the hole in the wall—the one the guest has “no clue” where it came from.

    Host Liability Insurance

    What it covers:

    • Guest injuries.
    • Damage to guest belongings.
    • Damage to shared areas or nearby properties caused by guests.

    What’s not covered:

    • Intentional damage or harm.
    • Damage to your own property (this is under Host Damage Protection).
    • Exclusions for things like data loss or assault-related incidents.

To file a claim, you’ll need to fill out Airbnb’s liability insurance form, which will be handled by a third-party insurer. Even then, you still may not be covered for various reasons, so I wouldn’t recommend relying on Airbnb to save you in every circumstance.

    Experience Liability Insurance

Airbnb also offers Experience Liability Insurance, which provides up to $1 million in coverage for injuries or property damage occurring during an Airbnb Experience. This includes online and in-person events, with protection extending to co-hosts as well.

    What it covers:

    • Guest injuries.
    • Damage to guest belongings.
    • Costs related to preparing and cleaning up after experiences.
    • Virtual events.

    What’s not covered:

    • Intentional damages or harm.
    • Damage to your own property.
    • High-risk activities like extreme sports.

For both types of insurance, you’ll need to submit claims through Airbnb’s platform, and there are certain things to note about timelines to report a claim.

Types of Insurance You May Need

Depending on how you use your property, different types of insurance will be necessary:

    • Homeowner’s insurance is the basis needed, but you need to take it further.
    • An endorsement to your policy may be needed for shorter-term rentals (less than six months).
    • Landlord insurance is necessary if you rent long-term.
    • Business insurance may be required for regularly renting your property for income and need extra liability insurance. I always recommend a commercial policy with an additional umbrella policy.

    What Airbnb’s AirCover Doesn’t Cover

While Airbnb’s AirCover insurance offers basic protection, it doesn’t cover everything. Exclusions include wear and tear, loss of income, and personal injuries unrelated to guests. AirCover also won’t protect against intentional acts, gross negligence, or illegal activities. Plus, the $1 million cap may be insufficient in serious cases, so you might want external home insurance for full coverage.

AirCover is also notorious for denying claims that do not have sufficient evidence or documentation needed to support the claim.

    Common Issues Airbnb Hosts Experience

Hosting guests can lead to various issues, from small nuisances to full-blown nightmares. Here are a few common problems:

    • Vandalism: Property damage caused by unruly guests or unauthorized parties.
    • Theft: Guests may steal anything from small items to high-value possessions.
    • Unpaid rentals: Sometimes, guests refuse to pay, affecting your income.
    • Bodily injuries: Hosts can be liable for guest injuries.
    • Damage to your property: Whether accidental or intentional, property damage is a real risk.

If your property is vacant between stays, problems like mold, broken pipes, or faulty appliances can also arise.

    Best Airbnb Insurance Options

To protect your investment, you’ll need insurance tailored specifically for short-term rentals. Here are some top providers:

    • Obie: Offers customizable coverage with fast, online quotes and ideal for Airbnb hosts.
    • Proper Insurance: Known for comprehensive coverage, Proper is a bit more expensive but offers protection for theft, liability, and property damage.
    • Liberty Mutual: Specializes in landlord insurance, covering rental properties and loss of income.
    • Allstate HostAdvantage: Provides an endorsement for homeowner’s policies, covering personal belongings during rentals.
    • Farmers Insurance: Offers landlord policies that cover liability, property damage, and loss of rental income.

If you are having trouble finding the right insurance or a quote that makes sense to you, I would reach out to an insurance broker in your state who can help price out different options for you.

    Final Thoughts

Choosing the right insurance policy depends on your specific situation, so be sure to compare coverage options, costs, and risks before making a decision. A solid insurance plan is essential to keeping your property—and peace of mind—intact as an Airbnb host.

The great thing about insurance is that it can be deducted as an expense in your investment bookkeeping. You need to make sure to track all of your expenses, like insurance, in a simplified manner. That is where Baselane comes in as the perfect solution!

Rev. Barbara Williams-Skinner and Mack McCarter awarded for civic service

(RNS) — Two notable pastors, the Rev. Barbara Williams-Skinner, a public policy strategist and voting rights advocate, and Mack McCarter, founder and coordinator of Community Renewal International, will be honored with awards Monday (Oct. 7) by the Center for Christianity and Public Life at its second annual summit in Washington.

The center is a nonpartisan nonprofit founded by Michael Wear, the former faith adviser to President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign, and aims to politically engage and unite Christians to help build a “healthy, inclusive, civic pluralism” in the U.S.

The 2024 Civic Renewal Award honors Christians who have made “exemplary contributions to the health and well-being of their community and nation.”

“Both of this year’s awardees reflect and justify our confidence in positive Christian contributions to our communities and public life,” Wear said in a statement. “They have advised presidents and advocated for the poor. They have counseled leaders and mentored generations. And they have done it all with integrity, joy, and perseverance.”

Williams-Skinner is CEO and co-founder of the Skinner Leadership Institute, which offers leadership development for people of all backgrounds and faiths, especially young people. With her late husband, the Rev. Tom Skinner, she founded the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Prayer Breakfast, which annually attracts over 3,000 leaders across the nation. In 2022, Williams-Skinner coordinated a 10-state nonpartisan, multi-racial and interfaith voter justice campaign to make it easier for vulnerable groups to vote.

Additionally, Williams-Skinner has served as a board member for Operation Rainbow PUSH, the Christian Community Development Association and the Neighborhood Learning Center. She has authored two books on prayer and leadership.

I’m honored to receive the Center for Christianity and Public Life Civic Renewal Award. I consider myself a follower of Jesus seeking to model as he did in his public ministry profound care for the health and well-being of all members of the community beyond barriers dividing them,Williams-Skinner said.

Mack McCarter is the founder of Community Renewal Institute (CRI). He is an ordained minister in the Disciples of Christ (Christian Church) denomination. After his time serving as a pastor in Texas for 18 years, McCarter returned to Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1991 to implement his vision of community renewal.

After CRI was formally organized in 1994, it has grown to receive national and international recognition for its impactful work. In 2013, McCarter moved with his family to Washington, D.C., to develop a model of intentional community in what he considers an influential city.

“I’m just honored to represent our entire team of wonderful, dedicated people who are dedicated to our mission to make our world a caring family through the love of God,” McCarter said.

Ten cities in the U.S. are reproducing the model of CRI, as well as a community in Cameroon. In two weeks, CRI will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with Esteban Moctezuma, ambassador of Mexico to the U.S., who will be the keynote speaker.

McCarter has received numerous other awards over the years, such as the Lumen Christi Award (2019-2020) by the Catholic Extension and Distinguished Minister of the Year (2015) by Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, Texas.

“It is a tremendous privilege to honor these two incredible human beings in this way, and I hope their examples inspire others to serve the public,” Wear said.

The Oct. 7-8 “For the Good of the Public” summit will also feature speakers on the current state of religion and American public life, strengthening democracy and addressing challenges for politics and civic life, including sexual abuse survivor and advocate Rachael Denhollander; the Washington Examiner columnist and senior fellow at American Enterprise Institute Tim Carney; New York Times columnist Jessica Grose; author of the forthcoming book “The Anti-Greed Gospel” Malcolm Foley; and more.
