Charles Leclerc: FIA holding discussions over whether to punish Ferrari driver for swearing in Mexico press conference | F1 News

    [ad_1]

The FIA is holding discussions over whether to punish Charles Leclerc for swearing during Sunday’s post-race press conference at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

Leclerc immediately apologised after uttering an expletive when describing the moment which saw him lose second place to McLaren’s Lando Norris in the closing stages of the race.

The incident comes little more than a month after world championship leader Max Verstappen was given the F1 equivalent of a community service order by the sport’s governing body for swearing during a press conference at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Asked about the moment in which he narrowly avoided a major crash but was passed by Norris, Leclerc said: “I had one oversteer and then when I recovered from that oversteer, I had an oversteer from the other side and then I was like, ‘****’.”

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc made a massive mistake to allow Lando Norris to overtake but managed to avoid crashing at the Mexico City GP.

Leclerc immediately apologised for his indiscretion, adding: “Oh, sorry! Oh, no, oh no! I don’t want to join Max.”

Sky Sports News understands that the FIA is looking into the incident, with a decision expected before Thursday’s media day at this weekend’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil.

Leclerc could be seen to have breached the FIA’s International Sporting Code, which could result in just a reprimand, or more severe punishments such as a fine or community service order.

Max Verstappen was part of an astonishing press conference following qualifying in Singapore as he refused to answer questions comprehensively after a swearing penalty.

It’s understood that Leclerc’s immediate regret over the incident could result in it being viewed more leniently than when Verstappen swore in Singapore before explaining why he doesn’t think using expletives is a major issue.

The Verstappen swearing saga has rolled on since then, with the Dutchman choosing not to give full answers in official press conferences and refusing to confirm whether he intends to serve his punishment.

A debate over swearing was initially sparked when FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said less in-race swearing over team radio by drivers should be broadcast, and that the sport’s competitors could play a part themselves by using cleaner language.

Verstappen received the backing of several drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, who said his once fierce rival shouldn’t serve his penalty.

The topic was discussed by the sport’s 20 drivers in a meeting held on Friday in Mexico, with a statement on the matter expected at some point in the near future.

  • Genting Singapore Credit Rating Supported by RWS, Says Moody’s

Genting Singapore Credit Rating Supported by RWS, Says Moody’s

    [ad_1]

    Posted on: October 28, 2024, 04:34h.

    Last updated on: October 28, 2024, 04:34h.

Momentum at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is supportive of Genting Singapore’s solid credit rating, according to Moody’s Investors Service.

    Resorts World Sentosa Singapore casino
Resorts World Sentosa. Operator Genting Singapore has a strong credit rating and a clean balance sheet. (Image: Mediacorp)

In a new report, the ratings agency affirmed its “A3” grade and “stable” outlook on the gaming company, noting the duopoly status Genting has in Singapore is a driver of earnings growth and free cash flow. Resorts World Sentosa and Las Vegas Sands’ (NYSE: LVS) Marina Bay Sands are the two casino hotels in the city-state. Both operators are spending in significant fashion to enhance those properties.

GENS is expanding and refreshing its offerings at RWS in phases for a total cost of SGD6.8 billion, which includes the amount already spent,” observed Moody’s. “Although the amount is significant, the capital expenditure will be spread across multiple years, peaking at an estimated SGD1 billion per annum between 2027 and 2029.”

The research firm added Genting Singapore should post modest earnings growth this year even with the headwind of some of its RWS room supply being offline due to renovations.

    Genting Singapore Balance Sheet Impressive

At a time when capital expenditures are necessary to bolster RWS amid increasing competition from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and perhaps Thailand, Genting Singapore has a significant advantage in the form of its balance sheet.

While “clean” balance sheets in the gaming industry are usually seen as a relative term, Genting Singapore’s fiscal position is pristine, indicating the operator will not be strained when it comes to improving its Singapore integrated resort.

“The company will likely fund its capital spending using internal cash sources. Consequently, GENS’ credit metrics and liquidity will remain strong because the company has minimal debt and sizable cash holdings of SGD3.7 billion as of June 2024,” added Moody’s.

Even if the gaming operator opted to head to capital markets to pay for some of its RWS-related spending, the cost of that financing would be low due to the company’s A3 credit rating, which is well into investment-grade territory. Genting Singapore sports a higher credit rating than its parent company Genting Bhd.

Genting Singapore Faces Minimal Downgrade Risk

At A3, there’s not much room for Genting Singapore to be upgraded as Moody’s has just three grades above that. That doesn’t imply the operator is at risk of a downgrade – a scenario that could easily be averted provided the company doesn’t rapidly take on significant debt.

“We could downgrade GENS’ rating if there is a prolonged weakness in its operating performance, such that its earnings and credit metrics deteriorate; the company fails to maintain its 100% ownership of RWS; it increases debt at Resorts World at Sentosa Pte. Ltd., resulting in structural subordination risk; or its adjusted net debt/earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) exceeds 1.0x,” concluded Moody’s.

An upgrade would be possible if Genting Singapore could maintain a debt/EBITDA ratio of below 3x and cash flow/net debt above 30%-35%.

  • Google Pixel Watch 5 to have a custom Tensor chipset

Google Pixel Watch 5 to have a custom Tensor chipset

    [ad_1]

Google’s Pixel Watch 5 might get a custom Tensor chip, giving up on Qualcomm as a supplier. This makes sense since Google is also using Tensor chips for its Pixel smartphones, but interestingly the switch will only happen in 2026, so the Pixel Watch 4 will presumably still use a Qualcomm SoC.

That said, the roadmap document that this leak is based on is itself from early 2023, which means a lot could have changed from then and up until now, keep that in mind.

    Google Pixel Watch 3
    Google Pixel Watch 3

Now, this Tensor chip’s CPU would have one Cortex-A78 core and two Cortex-A55 cores, according to the same source, while Google is also exploring RISC-V as a potential alternative to Arm. Those CPU cores are positively ancient, with the A55 launching in 2017, but this is a bit of a trend in wearables.

Both Samsung and Qualcomm use older cores in their smartwatch chips – the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 has Cortex-A53 cores (which launched in 2012), while the Exynos W1000 has one Cortex-A78 and four Cortex-A55, thus being the most similar to Google’s intended design. That makes us think this wearable Tensor might just be a tweaked Samsung chip – in the same way as all of the smartphone Tensor chips so far have been.

What isn’t known is what process technology this new Tensor chip will use, but it could be 3nm. Another unknown is the modem that will be used – if this is a Samsung design then an Exynos modem would make the most sense (it is after all what is used for Google’s smartphones).
