  • Circa, D Las Vegas and Golden Gate resorts introduced currency parity program targeting Canadians a month ago
  • Canadian tourism numbers to Las Vegas overall have been dropping over the past year
  • Currency parity program runs through Aug. 31 of this year

Is Circa Resort & Casino, the D Las Vegas and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino onto something, offering Canadians a promotion where they can book rooms at par with the U.S. dollar ($1 USD in value for every $1 CAD spent), helping to push Canadians beyond boycotts of U.S. travel over past comments by U.S. President Donald Trump and tariff battles?

2,700 Hotel Nights Booked

They might be. More than 15,000 Canadian visitors travelled to the resorts (2700 hotel nights booked) over the past 30 days, since the currency parity program was introduced. The program runs through Aug. 31. “Vegas at Par” involves select hotel rooms, drinks, entertainment and gaming offerings.

In a statement, owner and CEO Derek Stevens said on top of that they just booked a free concert featuring Canadian band Finger Eleven for Fremont Street June 27 (timed around Canada Day July 1), and a ticketed event featuring Excision, a B.C.-based DJ, at par, April 24-25 as well.

We wanted to amp things up, because the turnout has been terrific,” Stevens said, in a message over X.

Many Canadians are angry at the U.S., and there’s been plenty written and discussed when it comes to the reasons, leading to a Canadian travel boycott. As we wrote about last month, an Abacus poll showed that a significant minority of Canadians surveyed (33%) would think less of close friends or family members who travelled to Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport.  With many Canadians, travel has now become a moral issue.

Canadian Boycott

“These hotels are trying to address the problem with transactional tactics when, effectively, it is not fundamentally a transactional problem,” said Christopher Whyte, a travel agent with Freestone Travel, outside Toronto. “Costs are only a small part of the problem.”

According to Harry Reid International Airport statistics, in January, there was a 34.2% drop in passengers that arrived on Air Canada from Canadian airports compared to January 2025, a 30.3% drop via Porter Airlines, and a 27.9% drop via WestJet.

Canada is the top foreign market for Las Vegas. They’re not anywhere near the majority, but they’re reliable big spenders – 1.4 million travelled there in 2024, quick flights from Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver.

Currency Exchange Program

We’ve written about it – travel by Canadians to the U.S. has been on a steady downhill trajectory since early 2025. According to Statistics Canada, Canadian residents took 5.9 million trips that included an outbound visit to the United States in the third quarter of 2025, a steep decline of 34.7% year over year.

Canadian guests may redeem up to $500 CAD in slot promotional play, treated at full U.S. dollar value, if they visit Club One at Circa, the D or Golden Gate, presenting a valid Canadian passport or government-issued ID. Slot play is available on participating machines at each property.

Canadian guests do not have to be staying at the hotels to participate in the promotion.
