Justice Department officials and Mayor Eric Adams are set to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon to defend the federal government’s motion to dismiss the city leader’s bribery case. The hearing will force them to explain their highly questioned reasoning for the dismissal under oath. Judge Dale Ho, who has presided over the matter, will determine whether to drop the charges or to appoint a special prosecutor as some have urged him to do. It’s the culmination of a tumultuous few weeks that saw an interim U.S. Attorney and several DOJ officials submit their resignations rather than sign onto the unconventional request from the Trump administration–led department. The possible dismissal of Adams’s case has prompted allegations of an alleged quid pro quo, resulting in the departure of several deputy mayors and calls for Governor Kathy Hochul to consider removing the mayor from office. Below are the latest developments.
