Ukraine has said its missile forces carried out a strike on a Russian military airfield in Crimea that has been used for attacks against it, marking the latest in a series of attacks on the peninsula.

The Ukrainian military’s general staff said in a statement that Russia‘s Saky airfield in western Crimea was the latest target to be struck and that it was assessing the aftermath.

“This is one of the operational airfields that Russia uses to control the airspace, in particular the Black Sea, and for launching airstrikes on Ukrainian territory,” it said.

The strike came as Romania confirmed that fragments of a Russian drone fell in its territory, a day after Russia targeted Ukraine with 38 long-range drones.

Ukraine’s Air Force said three of the drones “were lost after crossing the state border with Romania”.

Nato’s leadership said it had ruled out the incident being a deliberate act of aggression by Vladimir Putin towards the alliance, while accusing Russia of being “irresponsible”.

Debunked: Russia’s fake news campaign targeting the Olympics

Debunked: Russia’s fake news campaign targeting the Olympics

Recently, a video of a man claiming to be a Hamas fighter threatening an Olympic attack spread across the world. Microsoft’s Threat Analysis Center said Russian troll farm, Storm-1516, could be behind the video, which Hamas called a “forgery”. In March, another group thought to be Russian known as Storm-1679, launched a fake news campaign with videos about supposed terrorist threats targeting the Olympics in Paris. But, this was a plot to spread fake news about the safety of the world event – which Russia was banned from because of the ongoing war in Ukraine. Watch Debunked for more.

Zelensky visits children’s hospital hit by Russian missile

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has visited young patients in the Okhmatdyt hospital in central Kyiv that was bombed by Russian forces earlier this month.

The hospital is home to many of Ukraine’s youngest cancer patients.

Russia continues to deny that it was responsible for the strike despite considerable evidence, including footage of the moment the missile hit the hospital, suggesting otherwise.

Millions of pounds have been raised since the hospital was partially destroyed to rebuild it.

India’s Modi likely to make first visit to Ukraine next month since Russia’s invasion

Indian premier Narendra Modi is likely to visit Ukraine next month for his first visit since Russia’s full-scale invasion, local media reports.

Ukraine’s embassy in New Delhi told Reuters it had no information on such plans to share immediately, and there was no immediate response from India’s foreign ministry.

Western countries have imposed sanctions on Moscow following its all-out invasion of Ukraine in 2022, but “friendly” nations such as India and China have continued to trade. India has refrained from directly blaming Russia, while urging the two nations to resolve their conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.

Mr Modi met Vladimir Putin in Moscow just weeks ago, as a Russian missile struck a hospital in Kyiv killing at least 41 people. The Indian leader told Mr Putin that the death of innocent children was “painful and terrifying”.

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed unhappiness over Mr Modi’s visit, calling it a “huge disappointment and a devastating blow to peace efforts” to see him hug “the world’s most bloody criminal in Moscow on such a day”.

The final date of Mr Modi’s visit is not yet confirmed, The Print reported.
