Samsung’s Galaxy AI was a big part of today’s Unpacked event – the generative AI service debuts on the Galaxy S24 smartphones and Samsung is keen to position it as one of their key selling points. The company revealed the new technology is powered by Google Cloud.

The Korean company will be the first partner that will deploy Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI via the cloud to their smartphones.

Gemini can generalize and seamlessly understand, operate across, and combine different types of information, including text, code, images, and video. Native apps such as Notes, Voice Recorded, and Keyboard will be able to use these features to get better with time. Gemini Pro will also provide critical features, including security, safety, privacy, and data compliance, the press release added.

Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung, said his team is “thrilled” that the Galaxy S24 series is the first to be equipped with Gemini Pro.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added that Samsung developers would be able to use the platform’s “world-class infrastructure, cutting-edge performance, and flexibility” to provide generative AI to Samsung users.

Samsung Galaxy S24 devices are coming with Android 14 out of the box, meaning there will be Gemini Nano, an on-device LLM (large language model). We already know from Pixel 8 Pro devices that the feature provides smart replies in messages, fixes slightly shaky videos and improves night shots.
