Sony sent out the update to Android 14 to the Xperia 1 V, its mainstream sized flagship, back in early November, and for some reason it’s taken two additional months for it to reach the company’s smaller flagship device, the Xperia 5 V. The mid-range Xperia 10 V got it one week after the 1 V, for comparison.
All’s well that ends well? Today Sony’s official Instagram account announced that Android 14 is finally rolling out to the Xperia 5 V. It was definitely about time.
The update brings with it everything Google packed in the Android 14 release, of course. Additionally, you get support for using the LED flash on the rear as a notification light, but also flashing of the screen to bring your attention to notifications or alarms. The Xperia 5 V is now compatible with the Find my device app, allowing you to easily – as the name implies – find it, but also lock it and erase content remotely.
There’s also an expanded Nearby Share feature which lets you send files from your Windows computer to the phone without any cables, and you have customizable lock screen shortcuts too.

Note that such rollouts are usually going out in batches, so even if your particular Xperia 5 V unit hasn’t received the notification yet, it’s surely coming within the next few days.
