Andrew Wiggins shooting career best from 3

SAN FRANCISCO — Andrew Wiggins isn’t sure how many shots he puts up in a given practice. It’s definitely more than 100, he said, but maybe not quite 200.

Wiggins simply shoots until it feels right. And lately, his shot has never been better.

Wiggins had his best offensive showing of the season Saturday night when the Warriors put on a clinic against the youthful Houston Rockets. After a 17-point first half, Wiggins caught fire in the third, making five 3s and scoring 17 of the team’s 26 points in that frame.

“Man, I felt like I was just flowing,” he said after the Warriors blasted the Rockets by 15 points. “My shot felt good. My teammates did a great job finding me and getting me open shots and good looks. It felt good.”

He finished with a season-best 36 points on 14 of 19 shooting that included a career-tying eight 3s. He also had five rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win.

Wiggins’ availability is up in the air for Monday’s game against the Indiana Pacers as he and Jordan Poole were listed as questionable on the team’s injury report. Wiggins is dealing with right adductor tightness and Poole left ankle soreness.

Still, Saturday’s showing in a blowout win continues a sweltering start to the season for Wiggins. He’s averaging 19.1 points, second to only Curry on the team, and has been incredibly efficient, boasting the highest effective field goal percentage of his nine-year career (61.6%).

“Andrew was great,” coach Steve Kerr said. “I didn’t feel like I have done a very good job the last two or three games of getting him involved. Sometimes he can be left out a little bit offensively when we’re really kind of flying up the court, taking quick shots.”

The Warriors made a more concerted effort in getting Wiggins involved offensively, and it paid off.

“He was super aggressive,” Kerr continued, “and his shooting was amazing to watch.”

Wiggins has made 67 of his 149 attempts from deep and 14 of his last 28 over the past five games. That’s improved his personal-best 3-point shooting clip to 45%, a far cry from his 35.6% career average.

Wiggins has set out a goal to keep his rate from 3 above 40% for the first time in his career.
