Commonly known in the US as pets called Spice Finch and through the world as the scaly-breasted munia, nutmeg mannikin or spotted munia (Lonchura punctulata), is a small sparrow-sized estrildid finch native to tropical Asia. Here in Southern California they now live among our native birds in harmony, and in our garden.
